3. TOXIC (THE LOWBROWS Gimme Five Remix)

Horray! I really really love this single, honest! I really love MEG’s style and I think this is a turn in a VERY different, but awesome direction. FREAK includes heavy synth and mostly talking-lyrics and I think this makes it sounds really tough. There are maniacal “la-la-la’s” in the background, and it makes the song sound insane. By insane, I don’t mean SICK AWESOME DUDE INSANE, I mean like mentally demented and synical. But my GOODNESS, it’s awesome! If you want to lose your mind, listen to this song! Hahah~

TOXIC has a similar feel as far as the beat and synth goes, but seems a bit more disorganized than FREAK. In fact, it tries to copy FREAK a bit too much, and ends up sounding a bit eh.

THE LOWBROWS Gimme Five Remix of TOXIC is a hot mess. The beat is a bit more industrial if anything, and the lyrics are cut into eachother to create a nice beat that’s not too annoying. Heehee! Anyway, pretty good single. Can’t wait to see what MEG brings us next!

Namie has a really fun new style! Both of these songs are definitely techno-oriented with tons of crazy synth and vocal arrangements. As for WILD, it’s my favorite of the two. It’s a great dance beat and really gets you pumped. There are so many different parts to this song and it really keeps you interested. Dr. is great too, but a bit stranger. It’s futuristic sounding and has a bit of a weird bridge: it breaks into a bit of an opera piece (as far as vocals go)! But don’t worry; it’s great. It’s not as easily dancable as WILD, but is very fun none the less. Great single from Namie, as usual!

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any promotional pictures for the single, but I saw the PV (and obviously heard the song) and I love them both!! The song has a great dance beat and sexy vocals. There is also some piano which adds a bit of a gentle and sad feeling to the song. Love it love it love it~

Anywho, let’s get on with Planetarium! Like I said before, the song is very dreamy and soft. It’s a good Ikimono song, but not the best! It’s a good way to ease into the album. And you know what, I still can’t really get into Kimagure Romantic. I don’t know what it is… It’s very Christmasy with jingly bells and cute vocals.

I never really listened to Blue Bird when it came out, but now that I have, I love it! The crowd favorite harmonica is surely there (yay!). The song itself is pretty exciting and encouraging and Kiyoe’s vocals are very strong. SPICE MAGIC is pretty similar to Planetarium, just a bit faster paced. Kageboshi is lighthearted and relaxed. The vocals really come from Kiyoe’s heart. :3

Kaeritakunatta yo is definitely one of my most favorite Ikimono songs ever. The instrumentals are breathtaking and aweing, and the vocals are heartwarming, touching, and wonderful!  I still get goosebumps at the chorus!

message has a VERY fun tune, similar to MISO SOUP from their LIFE ALBUM. The song consists of short poppy sound and lyrics, but it’s very fun to dance around to. Happy Smile Again is another one of my favorites from this album. I don’t know what I love about it so much… it’s just so cute :3

Kuchizuke is a darker sounding song from Ikimono. And I don’t mean dark… it’s just on the other end from their typical upbeat songs. The vocals follow a kind of melodic rythym and the bridge and chorus are really solid. Near the middle of the song there are some sounds that remind me of a bullfight or a siesta XD. It’s that clapping sound!

Yay! Boku wa koko ni iru is for sure my favorite song so far on this album! I love when girls say “boku.” It has such attitude. The song is very sweet and gentle, and loving at the chorus. The message is very kind and a bit romantic :3

Despite the weird name, Pugi Ugi is pretty tough! It’s definitely something different for Ikimono, but I like it. It’s a beachy song, too. I’ve got to say that Maboroshi has some beautiful strings and bells that make it a sad ballad. Along the sort of same lines as Kaeritakunatta yo, it pulls at your heartstrings. Kokoro no Hana wo Sakaseyou is kind of boring and very similar to Planetarium.

The acoustic version of Kaeritakunatta yo is… well… the acoustic version . It definitely takes away from the wonderfulness of the original, but is still good.

WHERE’S MY HARMONICA!? There was a serious lack of it . . .

I very much enjoyed Milky Way’s first single, Anataboshi, and guess I was expecting a lot out of Tan Tan Taan!, but I was kind of disappointed. Tanx3 has a very nursery rhyme sound and some random (and very annoying) “YAY”s that are very fake sounding. They don’t seem to be really happy about yaying. But nevertheless, it eventually takes you in, because it is a bit catchy. My favorite part(s) of the song is the bridge before the chorus.

I think the b-side, Gamusharara, is much better. It starts off sounding like a jazzy number with tons of energy and maintains a sort of latin beat through the track. It’s really quite fun and weird, like I was hoping from the a-side!

Love these girls! Noel is my fave :3

This is really a fantastic album to listen to if you need to just relax! Isn’t the album artwork beautiful?

This album is very fantasy orientated. Almost fairylike… and Odayakana Shizukesa ~ Jouka really shows that. The instrumentals are soft and natural with lots of nature sounds. Kokia’s voice is so beautiful. Follow the Nightengale starts softly with whispers and some vocals from Kokia, but then breaks into a strong and exciting piece with strings and maracas. And even cooler, the chorus is sung backwards! AH! It sounds like this: ATTAMIJAHAHIRA TAGONOMARAKIKOTA.

Ave Maria is very beautiful and almost sad. There isn’t much more than piano in the beginning, but then there are some beautiful ambient beats. The only lyrics are “Ave Maria,” but Kokia sings them all with different emphasis and pitches. Kokia’s opera voice gives you goosebumps! It’s so lovely~

Todokimasu youni is a slow acoustic ballad. It’s very calm and the chorus is sung with two different pitches which makes things interesting. I don’t like song of pocchong ~Shizuku no uta~ very much. It has very strange vocals that repeat over and over and are meant to be playful, but just end being annoying. It is very Irish in many ways with it’s “woodland” feel.

You say gomene to apologize in Japanese, and the song really shows that. It’s very sweet with minimal instrumentals to really focus on the words. Aww~ Lacrima is one of my favorite songs on this album. It’s almost like a lullaby. It’s so gentle and nurturing with lots of emotion and only a guitar for instrumentals.

I think Nanimo Kamo ga hoshi ni natte is the only song that uses drums and guitar. It’s very upbeat, but it’s still a ballad. I can imagine Kokia in a pretty red dress singing this at a fancy nightclub. haha~

Il mare dei suoni is my favorite song on this album, hands down. It’s very mysterious, sung in Italian, and kind of creepy sounding. I can compare it to Yoko Kanno’s Inner Universe in ways. It’s very beautiful and entrancing with a hint of fear during the chorus. Kokia’s stunning opera voice stands out again.

Everlasting is very beautiful and sung in English. It has a very strong religious feeling of worship and the Christian God. Chiisana uta is really cute. Her voice is so pure, innocent, and hynotizing. We finish off with Watashi ni dekiru koto, the Japanese bonus track (versus the European bonus track). It’s kind of plain compared to the rest of her amazing, powerful album.

So here we have Days, a brilliant love song that has a very Christmas feel. It’s an emotional ballad and it’s very heartwarming. The hook leads to a great chorus. The 10th Anniversary version of LOVE ~Destiny~ is pretty good. It sounds like the old one XD but of course, her voice has matured and a few instruments are added.

I can imagine this song playing after learning that someone you love has betrayed you and just going crazy. Ayu’s vocals show pain, (but of course they’re beautiful) but some strength.
